Forum .LRN Q&A: .LRN/OpenACS Fall Meeting in Boston: Call for Abstracts (and Volunteers)

It is official, we will be hosting a .LRN and OpenACS meeting at Harvard November 1st and 2nd, 2006 (with a bug bash on the following weekend).

I put up an initial wiki page with general info here for now:

https://openacs.org/xowiki/en/Fall_Conference_2006

Online registration will open soon.

I am looking for some volunteers to help with the organization.

This is also a call for abstracts (25-250 words) for posters, demos, talks/presentations, workshops, teaching sessions, etc.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

I will help with organization (after e-lane meeting first week of september). We should set up an organization committee.
The first day, as you say, should focus on e-learning / community stuff, that will bring more attention to event, which is good for the project. Is about technologies only (Educational/Community Web Applications) or is more general (e-learning and online communities)?. I would like to help in have a formal organization, call for papers, evaluation and selection of presentations, etc.

The second day can be more specific-technical discussions about .LRN & OpenACS, as you said, and if I understand well, even other web technologies. Also there is Call for discussion / working sessions.

Maybe september for the call of papers, etc., and october to review, acceptance and deliver of accepted works.

I will mail to some contacts I have at e-learning magazines, discussion groups, etc., so we should expect good number of people.

Hacking days can be openly organized through the forums, someone has to take the lead.

Ok, just a few ideas...

I just got this link from the summer source group, which describes how they have been organizing the overly successful summer source camps around the world. This might give you some ideas and hints for the .LRN / OpenACS meeting:

I have some questions about .LRN and OpenACS meeting at Harvard November 1st and 2nd, 2006:
1. Will the official online registration be opened and when? (I added my name on 'Fall Conference 2006 Interest in Attending' wiki page, but I guess that is not a registration)
2. I have arranged already my travel to Boston for the conference and I have visa also, but I need some document (may be letter of invitation) to show at the airport to the immigration officer to prove that I am attending the conference.
3. I will pay the registration fee at the conference and I need a document for the reimbursement (a kind of invoice or receipt)

Best regards, Volin Karagiozov

After browsing a lot for hotels, I came with this map that show the 2 places the meeting will happen (in blue):

There are also some hotels in the map, anyway, if you enter the address using mapquest, you can request to find nearby hotels, that might help people finding hotels.

Volin,

1. We will be making the registration public within the next 24 hours.

2. We have been faxing invitations. Please send me a fax number and your details per email and I can send you one.

3. We will be using Paypal, but can create custom invoices if that is not enough.

Carl

Carl,

Jesús, Olga and I will need an invoice too for the registration fee.

Registration is open. Please register soon. There is limited space for the conference and we need final counts for catering by this weekend. Registration deadline (for dinner): Sunday the 29th of October.

Please help get the word out and let us know if you have any problems with registration.
