Forum .LRN Q&A: Proposal to redesign one-community-admin page: make one admin page per portlet

I'd like to redesign the current one-community-admin page, to show a simpler page.

Last tuesday, it was talked about it on irc meeting.

There is a thread about that in OpenACS forums: https://openacs.org/forums/message-view?message_id=1043997

I'm sure that this topic will be interesting for many people, and there will be good ideas for fast and robust implementations.

I have an idea I want to share, to know if it makes sense...
I have been thinking about converting one-community-admin page into a index.vuh file, inside a control-panel folder. Note that names can be different, for convenience, but I'll use that in that message.

That way, urls will be clear, something like... mycommunity/control-panel/forums, instead of mycommunity/?page_num=11 or mycommunity/one-community-admin?portlet=forums

PS: Another link related with that proposal I'm working on: a dotlrn-admin-portlet redesign https://openacs.org/forums/message-view?message%5fid=1501061

Is there a great demand for this?

If you do it, you'll need to key the url off the applet-key of the portlet I think. You want to do it so that the URL is generated based on what applets are installed and not hard code urls for the applets into the index.vuh.

Hi,

What would happen to options like "Customize portal layout" that do not correspond to any portlet?

The current dotlrn-admin-portlet would be the main one, the index page.
I have made an html version of how could be the new dotlrn "one-community-admin-portlet" and the course/community control panel

http://dotlrn.org/zen/control-panel/control-panel.html

Suggestions are welcome.

looks nice though I would split it up in four applets:
- group admin
- subgroups
- site wite admin
- applets
The approach shown by Miguel seems simple enough for most professors which is what .LRN needs.
