Forum .LRN Q&A: New dotlrn package for Chat

Hello, all!

In University of Valencia we are integrated
the chat module in dot. The chat package is now
three modules:

-chat: this is the standard package for postgres
with some modifications. We are changed the
      release number of that package.
-chat-portlet
-dotlrn-chat

Characteristics:
-Teachers can create rooms visible by default by
admins and students of his group.
-One user have a portlet with his chat rooms where
he have chat user permissions.
-Teacher and admins can add users to his rooms.

Some points:
-It is for Postgres, convert to Oracle must be easily.
-We are cut some chat characteristics: we are disabled
html chat (It do not works) and moderation.
-Translated in Spanish, Catalan and English.
-Many bugs. I suppose it. 😊

Are there anybody interested in our code?
Can I put in CVS?

(PS: If anybody want to test it in our development
plataform can use (for some days):
  authority: LOCAL
      user: alumno
        pw: kelova8
)

Best regards,
Agustin

I cant see it on firefox (mac), this is the chat module that was originally released under classic ACS 4.x, isn't it?

I think is ok that you commit this on cvs.openacs.org ... just be sure that they are no naming conflict with the jabber module, that btw, should be moved to /packages

Galileo will use jabber, Malte, can you bring the code from concord to CVS?

Hello,

Good news! Could you send your code to my e-mail while it is not in CVS? We are close to implement chat package posted by Rodrigo Proença in a live dotlrn install at www.cope.sede.embrapa.br and could apply your changes to test it for production.

Thanks

I imported this to HEAD. Sadly I have not been able to import to oacs-5-1. Maybe someone can tell me how ....

Furthermore the version was upgraded to 1.1b1.

I will add the compat and release tag once you can confirm it works :).

Hi!

We are using the chat in our production system, although at the moment the professors don't use it.
