What's really needed to make webmail viable under aolserver is a good mime handling library similar to those that are implemented in java - something like a ns_mime aolserver module. I've used the mime package in tcllib, and it's just to slow for handling emails with large attachments. It's use in webmail would easily open you up to a major DOS attack.
