Forum OpenACS Q&A: OpenACS on Apache - seeing index.html at root level

I've installed OpenACS using Apache as the web listener and everything
works fine on port 8000.  I want to reconfigure the home page of this
site and created an index.html file which is in /var/opt/www, my site
root directory.  I cannot get the file to load.  Whenever I try to
access it, the page is blank except for a message that says, 'file not
found'.  This is a different message than I see if I specify a url
that doesn't exist (ie, index.htms), so Apache is seeing the
index.html file.  Any clues?
