Lars, that model (of alerting at the top of form errors below) is exactly the model employed in a current client project, and it works very well.
On small forms it feels a bit redundant, but on large forms (where the field in error could be off the bottom of the screen) it is invaluable.
A simple generalisation is to say "please address the X error(s) below"
