I've been a fan of Wikis for some time, but I now believe that they can't be left open for just anyone to edit. I run a simple PHP-based Wiki largely for my own use. When PhpBuilder.com linked to one of my pages, a bunch of bozos showed up and started vandalizing the pages. I don't understand how the Wiki at c2.com survives that kind of abuse. My faith in human nature is somewhat restored by the several emails I've received saying "Hey dude, you accidentally allowed your web pages to be edited by anyone!" -- they don't understand the Wiki idea, but at least they didn't hit and run.
