Forum OpenACS Q&A: Volunteers needed for OCT Fall 2004 election

5 members of the OCT terms will expire in October. This is a call for a couple of volunteers to manage the election.

Here is some example of the last election process:

Steve,

I was volunteering last spring (although Guan Yang did the most work). It's not a whole lotta work, especially since Guan wrote a script that counts the votes from an mbox file. I think the biggest part of work is to create the list of eligible voters and to compare every ballot to that list.

I did the vote counting before once before - glad to do it again

It was more work than expected. I actually started doing a manual count, then decided halfway that it was too hard and error-prone, and started writing the vote counting script.

The script is here: http://unicast.org/download/vote.tcl

The consensus after last election was that the next election should be done with more automation, perhaps based on the simple-survey package. This was complicated by the fact that last time there were a couple of eligible voters who did not have openacs.org accounts.

By the way, there's some code in that version of the script to print out the names of people who voted for Caroline Meeks; IIRC this was to check for problems because Jarkko got a different count for her.

Steve,

See this forum thread. There is a way to query the forums to see who is eligible and you can see what sort of time frames we set for the various stages.

We need to generate a list of eligible voters, accept nominations, send ballots and count them.
