Forum OpenACS Q&A: Is there a rating/review site for free software?

hej,

I am curious to know if there is any site that provides reviews and
rating of free software. I want to be able to go to a site, and be
able to choose a good photo edtior, word processor, xml parser or
some other tool I might need. But save the time of downloading the
thousands of crapware before finding the one that works.

Think of the thousands of packages that are in sourceforge, and the
number of them that are really good quality, and usable tools.

Thanks for any information.

I'd ask sourceforge for a user rating facility with feedback possibility 😉. Other than that, look at download.cnet.com. They have user ratings and number of downloads.

A four part series on MySQL entitled "MySQL: An Open Source RDBMS" and a "Head of the Herd" feature on Zope today. <sarcasm>Great!</sarcasm>

Here's something non-techs can do: submit OpenACS to the relevant categories (e.g. BITS for bug tracking) to Linux Enterprise Computing http://linas.org/linux/index.html. Linux Applications and Utilities Page http://home.xnet.com/~blatura/linapps.shtml, and freshmeat.net
