If AOLserver is running on the ip address 127.0.0.1 (or host name localhost, same thing) it won't be responding on the public IP address.

You need to configure and start AOLserver with the public ip address for your machine if you want to access it frm another computer.

You can do this by editing the config file and setting the address parameter to either 1) the public ip address for the server or 2) 0.0.0.0 (which means it will respond on any ip address assigned to that machine).

Dave,

Thank you so very much. i finally did it again today and now have a better idea of what you have explained about having the instance available on the public IP.

I kept editing the /etc/dotlrn/config.tcl to the computers ip address and it allowed me to access the home page but not go anywhere else..not even login. So, now I will try changing the /etc/aolserver4/aolserver4.tcl from 127.0.0.1 to 0.0.0.0

Can i leave the /etc/dotlrn/config.tcl on localhost or should i change that as well?
