One reason LORS creation is slow is that cr_item creation on PostgreSQL is not as fast as it can be. Jeff made changes to acs_objects to speed up object creation by calculating the next sort_key ahead of time. Cr_items does not have this feature. It needs to be updated. I will look into doing this for OpenACS 5.2.
