Reading University Centre for Advanced Computing and Emerging Technologies (ACET) is happy announce the release of the dotLRN Installer (2.1.1) for Windows.

The executable installer is available here:

http://www.personal.rdg.ac.uk/~sir03imb/dotLrnInstaller2.1.1.exe

Please download the file and proceed through the dialogs in the installer. The installer is intended to provide a quick installation for those who want to try out the features of dotLRN 2.1.1 and is not designed for production environments. Feedback would be very much appreciated.

Please also note that the installer is part of ongoing development. Future work includes:

- Adding multi-language support (useful for e-lane)

I will also make the source code available as soon as I have added licenses and documentation to the source files.

I just tried running the installer and it died. The error message I got from my JVM Launcher was "could not find the main class."

If you're getting this message you may have an older JRE or a JRE that has not been installed correctly. Which version of java are you running? you can check this by typing:

java -version

at the windows command prompt.

You should be running java 1.3 and above for the installer to function. If in doubt please go to http://java.sun.com/ and download the latest version.

I am running the installation on Windows 2000 Advanced server.
The installer got stalled and it opens a Window saying:
Error: Psql:Could not connect to server: No such file or directory. Is the server running locallyand accepting connections on Unix domain socket /tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432.

Looks like the installer is unable to start up the postgres service after installing it.

What is the installer based on ?
It would be really cool if its open source 😉.

My JRE is 1.4.2. I'll try re-installing.

did you select "Use a remote PostreSQL server"?

The installer is written in java and will be open source with source code available soon.

Thanks for your feedback, i will provide a fix for this issue tomorrow.

I was able to get the installer to run with a clean copy of the JRE but am now having the same problem as Harish. I'm running on XP and I did select the option to install and use a local PostgreSQL server.
