Oh, I see what you mean about subsites then, yes, among other things the "root hack" seemed to confuse people a bit, i.e. several folks had to ask for help in the forums to get it working. If you can provide the same functionality using host node mapping and provide clear instructions for doing the mapping then yeah, sounds good.
Caching ... how about a parameter that allows one to choose the largest size file that will be cached and set it by default to a reasonable level? "0" would imply "no binary files cached". And maybe that's reasonable default behavior, actually??? You certainly don't want to try to cache something like an Oracle download (1/2 GB) on an average webserver!
