Can Sequential Oracle DB Archive Files extension .001
be safely moved to another location? My current Hard Drive is running out of space (each archive is approx. 50 MB, although I have 170 GB of free space elsewhere). If I were to move older archives (2 months and older), would that cause a problem with the DB?

Most people just back them up to tape and delete them. The theory of those logs is that you can apply them forward or backward to get to a specific point in time in your database, so how long you want to keep them is up to you. There's more to it, but that's the basics.

Keep a week online and archive the rest.

It really depends on how often you do your hot backups. You need all of your archive logs from the beginning of your last hot backup (plus the hot backup files) to be able to do a full recovery. If you want to be able to recover to a previous hot backup then you need the archive logs from the beginning of that backup.

But you can save them offline (on tape or cd) as long as you don't mind the extra time needed during recovery.

If you can move them elsewhere on your harddrive then that is probably best.
