Well, I'm really interested in the Jabber module, but in my case I needed it quickly so I did it. I guess is ok the Java version, wich also have a HTML interfase. Anyway I personally think that the module is good, that the porting won't be so hard and you probably always will want to have a chat module (that also has an instant messanging options, P2P messages between participants in a room) for casual users that doesn't want a more sophisticated messanging system like jabber.
So if there are a really community interest I offer myself to port it.
By the way, I do really need the jabber interfase, probably in a couple of weeks I'll start looking to add it to openacs 4.x, we need it for a future site that needs to be available in around 6 to 8 weeks!
