Forum .LRN Q&A: The e-Framework for Education and Research

http://www.e-framework.org/ is a new initiative of the U.K's Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) and Australia's Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST).

It looks like they want to define a set of standards to allow building of e-learning applications from a variety of web based services.

How can .LRN fit into this?

I clicked through to find some more information:

http://www.elframework.org/ "The ELF is an international effort to develop a service-orientated approach to the development and integration of computer systems in the sphere of learning, research and education administration."

http://www.elframework.org/ "This page lists the software development projects which implement, provide adapters for or consume services within the E-Learning Framework."

It appears the general idea is to hook together components for e-learning applications through web services.

This paper is also linked but I haven't read through it yet http://www.e-framework.org/SOAandWorkflow2.pdf

Here is the JISC page http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/distributed-systems/jisc-ie/arch/
