Forum .LRN Q&A: IMS DRI implementation in LORS?

Please, could someone - maybe ErnieG ? - tell me about if LORS is going to implement some IMS DRI core best practices (http://imsglobal.org/digitalrepositories/driv1p0/imsdri_bestv1p0.html)?

A company i am working for now is facing the problem to provide some interoperability level between dotLRN and external digital libraries. Most of this digital libraries expose metadata for harvesting using OAI-PMH.

I read from Ernie's thesis that LORS do not support the OAI-PMH protocol to exchange and share metadata but there is a chapter in his thesis where Ernie talks about implementing the IMS DRI core functionality (Z39.50 or SOAP) in LORS using OpenACS service contracts once the SOAP protocol was available.

I found a project called OCKHAM Initiative that "seeks to promote the development of digital libraries via collaboration between librarians and digital library researchers" (http://www.ockham.org/)". OCKHAM provides a tool called OCKHAM Harvest-to-Query wich provides an easy, out-of-the-box method for enabling any OAI-PMH available collection to be Z39.50 available.

I have been testing OCKHAM Harvest-to-Query and it helped me to build a Z39.50 repository from digital libraries OAI compliant like Open Journal Systems or Open Conference Systems from Public Knowledge Project (http://pkp.sfu.ca/).

My question is: is someone working or is planning to work on Z39.50 or SOAP implementation in LORS so we could search and retrieve records from Z39.50 repositories? I saw Nick was working on SOAP maturity in OpenACS. Is there any working plan so we could help?

Hope i could be clear so you people could undestand me 😊

Thanks in advance
