Forum OpenACS Q&A: Installing Oracle 8.1.7 on Red Hat Linux 7.3

Hi,
I have been having troubling trying to install Oracle 8.1.7 on linux
7.3.  I have follow the procedure that posted on the web such as this:

but, however, when it comes to the end and the Oracle trying to
initialize the apache httpd server.  It's just failed.  And I already
have apache 2.0.39 install on my linux.  So, I don't how to do it
from there??  So, please help me.

At the *The "Available Product Components" screen, uncheck the Oracle Apache server option so that it does not get installed. With the new Apache security exploit, you almost certainly don't want to run the one that was bundled in when Oracle put together their 8.1.7 distribution.

If the Oracle installer let you recover gracefully from the Apache initialization failure, you can probably use the Oracle Installer to have it un-install the Apache version it was trying to give you.

I assume when you say linux 7.3 you are talking about RH7.3. I remember having a similar problem... did you install the compat*.rpm files on the RH disk 2??

The instructions on this thread were for RH7.2 but they probably should work for 7.3
