Forum .LRN Q&A: LORS oracle support

Hi,

We/Uned just started to work on the oracle support for lors, lorsm and lors-central. For the moment, we are reading all the documentation we could find: Ernie Ghiglione's thesis, doc available in the packages and OpenACS forums. Is there any other documentation that we missed?

Looking at the postgresql datamodel, we saw many db objects whose identifiers are larger than 30 bytes. Oracle8i has this length restriction, and also oracle9i and 10g. One of our first step will be to establish a systematic way to truncate identifiers for oracle. I guess it would be better to "standarize" identifiers for both databases but we want to have lors on oracle by september/october and we think there is not enough time for that (unless we can get volunteers 😊.

We have planned to start working on the last version of oacs-5-2 branch. Are lors and lorsm stables in this branch? or do you recommend to work on another version?
