Forum OpenACS Development: Re: OpenACS and Postgres 8.2

Dear Gustaf, thanks a lot for your message.
I've applied the changes to the config files as suggested in the link you posted, but I still found some problems.
I believe the point is that OpenACS 5.2.3 works with Postgres version 8.0 and not with its newer versions. To make it work with these newer versions we've got two options available, either we:
1. force Postgres to work in backward compatibility mode
or
2. update the OpenACS installation scripts.
I think that in the long run option 2 is the only viable one.
In the mean time, given the problems I've still found, I'll stick to Postgres 8.0.

Once again thanks,
Maurizio

Maurizio,

what kind of problems do you have? the wiki page tells, how to configure the backwards compatibility switches for postgres. Yesterday I installed openacs on a new machine using postgres 8.2 without problems (the new intel macs are quite fast!).

concerning updating the sources: yes, that is necessary on the long run. updating all SQL scripts will be however a rather big change and will cause installations based on postgres 7.* stop working. As long as postgres 7.* is supported for acs 5.2.* this won't happen.

Dear Peter,
thanks a lot for your reply.

After having applied the mods described in the link you sent me, the following are the error messages I get.
[With Postgres 8.0 everything runs just fine]
I hope these error messages can be of some help!
Cheers and thanks,
Maurizio
