Forum .LRN Q&A: Translating a local checkout

Is it a bad idea to translate a local CVS HEAD checkout, instead of using the translation server?

I'm about set up OpenACS, with a small package I made, in Icelandic and it seems to make sense to use the new i18n capabilities in HEAD rather than hardcode the translation in 4.6 (?). As I need to deploy this soon I thought I'd translate on a local copy and then somehow (?) submit the catalog files to the community. Is the CVS HEAD tree @ openacs.org in good sync with the tree behind the translation server @ collaboraid.net ?

On a CVS HEAD checkout since yesterday I get this error when visiting /acs-lang/ :

invalid command name "lang::user::site_wide_locale"
    while executing
"lang::user::site_wide_locale"
    invoked from within
"if { [form is_request locale] } {
    if { ($package_id != "") && ([ad_conn user_id] != 0) } {
        element set_properties locale package_level_loc..."
    ("uplevel" body line 54)
    invoked from within
"uplevel {
    	  ad_page_contract {
    Change user preffered locale

    @author Peter Marklund (peter@collaboraid.biz)
    @author Christian Hvid
} ..."
[snip]

Is lang::user::site_wide_locale in some package I haven't installed or is my checkout broken? I've installed all the ref-* packages and acs-reference.
