Forum OpenACS Q&A: Back to try again

Collapse

About three years ago I was working with Rocael to setup an OpenACS installation. I had two clients in mind, one was on spec and when the other lost interest I let the thing slide. In fact, I turned the whole machine off.

I just fired it up again, and it looks like I'm running RedHat 7.1, PostgreSQL 7.2, TCL 8.3.3, and AD33.13. I can't even now remember how to start the server process to see what I still have there.

My first question is, what are the names of the config files to search for that would tell me what ports we used, and how do I kick this off?

Second, other than the database and the actual pages that were developed, should I worry about preserving any of this or just install a later RedHat, PG 7.4, and ACS 5.1.4?

And has anyone done a howto that will let me run multiple independent named hosts on port 80? That may not be as important as it once was, as the services that will be running on this machine will be displayed as part of sites that are happily runing on Apache and will not need to be available directly, but I know all my earlier attempts at this came to naught.

Since Roc helped you set things up, perhaps you should talk to him directly? We have no way of knowing if he used our standard config files or not ... his AIM handle is rocaelhr.

As far as running multiple independent named hosts on port 80, AOLserver 4 allows one to do this. You should read the documentation/example and then ask questions on the AOLserver listserv.

Don,

I don't do AIM, but would love to get back in contact with Rocael. Sadly, I don't seem to have an e-mail address for him. Could you possibly send that to me at mailto:vanhorn@whidbey.com? Or pass a note to him that I'd like to make contact?

If you follow the community link from our home page you'll find the directory (https://openacs.org/directory) where you can find Rocael.

The search on openACS could lead you to Pound (https://openacs.org/forums/message-view?message_id=77330) or Aolserver4 virtual hosting (https://openacs.org/forums/message-view?message_id=189026) to serve more hostnames.

Does anybody know if it is possible to use 'wildcards' (http://www.mail-archive.com/aolserver@listserv.aol.com/msg06965.html) yet?
