Hello,

In 'postgresql.sql' (rel 4.6.3) the functions 'bitfromint4( integer )' and 'bittoint4( bit varying )' seems to be defined twice.

Is there a reason for this or is it a typo?

Looks like a typo, not sure how it got there.  However it doesn't cause any problems.
