Forum OpenACS Q&A: Community roles and powers

What are the technical powers that people in the community have?
  • commit code (further divisible, e.g. doc only, one package only, contrib only, core)
  • edit the forums
  • administer the bug system
  • modify openacs.org content
  • Grant these powers to other people
What kinds of roles do we want to define? What is the process by which someone gets a role? Should everyone on the OCT be able to grant any power? Here are my suggestions.
  • committer chosen by other committers. OR chosen by TIP, and therefore ratified by the OCT? No limit to number.
  • Bug czar can edit all bugs. How many? Self-appointed? Any OCT member can grant this?
  • Package maintainer commit code for her package; edit bugs for her package. Self-nominated. Any OCT member can grant this.
  • Site Editor can edit openacs.org text and content and the forums. Selected by TIP?

Committer: choosen by OCT, not TIP, or delegated by a package maintainer.

Bug czar: by volunteer. I doubt people will jump at the opportunity to do this work :)

Package Maintainer: self-nominated, approved by OCT

Site Editor: Volunteers. Possibly the OCT will delegate authority to grant permission to a Web Team of 2 or 3 people who can further delegate the maintainence of various parts of the site.
