gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/Search-OpenFTS-tcl-0.3.2/parser'
cp parser/Parser.so .
(cd dict; gmake all)
gmake[1]: Entering directory `/usr/local/src/Search-OpenFTS-tcl-0.3.2/dict'
(cd snowball; make)
"../../Makefile.global", line 23: Need an operator
make: fatal errors encountered -- cannot continue
gmake[1]: *** [snowball] Error 1
gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/Search-OpenFTS-tcl-0.3.2/dict'

yeah - looks like make is complaining about the syntax in the file which surely  must be a corrupted Maefile or an outodfate gmake - what version "does gmake --version" tell you?
