Forum .LRN Q&A: Changing site-locale

Collapse
Posted by Nima Mazloumi on
Hi everybody,

I changed the language to de_DE:

Current system locale is German (DE) [ de_DE ]

But all the words are still in english!

Any idea why?

Also when I visit portal-templates (/dotlrn/admin/portal-templates) I get the following:

Template Actions
<span>#</span>dotlrn.clubs_pretty_plural# Portal [ Edit ]
<span>#</span>dotlrn.subcommunities_pretty_plural# Portal [ Edit ]
<span>#</span>dotlrn.user_portal_pretty_name# Portal [ Edit ]
test <span>#</span>dotlrn.class_instance_portal_pretty_name# Portal [ Edit ]

Does this mean that these words are not translated yet?

Greetings,
Nima

We are slowly moving towards a .LRN 2.0 launch date that is very dependent on community help at this point. .LRN 2.0 is still alpha. We are hoping for November, but that is not going to happen without help from users of both .LRN and OpenACS.

This starts with finding and reporting bugs. Nima, if you can reproduce the errors you are finding on the test servers, please post them as bugs in the OpenACS bug tracker so they can be triaged.

Bug Tracker: https://openacs.org/bugtracker/openacs/
Testing Servers: http://dotlrn.collaboraid.net/test/

The version of the bug tracker that we have on openacs.org does not have a search function, but there is a workaround: On this page https://openacs.org/bugtracker/openacs/ you can use your browser's search function (Edit -> Find) because all the open bugs are on one page.

We need everyone's help to move forward with this.

when changing the locale to something different than en_US, is expected to any new user to have that locale by default, the same when creating new classes, user portals, etc, everythig should be with the new locale by default. But it keeps only showing the en_US.

Also, it actually changes the locale for some forms (ad_form), so in the end user gets a mixed locale UI, everything with en_US and the forms (that I've seen so far) with the defaul locale, lets say es_ES.

the reported bug is here: https://openacs.org/bugtracker/openacs/com/acs-lang/bug?bug%5fnumber=2027

any of the acs-lang devs have an opinion?

The only way to make it work (so far) is to disable en_US, then it works as describe and in any time you enable en_US it returns to the old wrong behaivor.
