I'm new to AOL and ACSPG and I am trying to use the current port with
Aolserver 2.33 on Redhat 6.1.

Can it work? Or do I need to use AOL version 3.+?

It works just fine with AOLserver 2.3.x.  You can play around with this version just as it comes "out of the box".  After verifying it works, you'll want to download, compile, and install the latest driver from this site, however.  It includes a BLOB hack that is necessary for portrait uploading, wimpypoint, etc.  It is also far more robust than the driver that came with AOLserver 2.3.x.
