This is turning into one of those pain-in-the-ass situations that periodically make me question my sanity in ever having helped start this project ...

Look, Talli.  We all agree that arbitrarily closing the thread was a mistake.  The mistake was quickly undone.  It will not be repeated, the lesson has been learned.  The person who closed the thread asked the OCT whether it was the right thing to do because the OCT is the only group resembling a governance body we have.  The OCT knows it is not a site moderation body.

The thread would've never stayed closed without a public discussion.  Are you suggesting we should've had a public debate before re-opening the thread?  Why would we do that just to restore the status quo?

If you want to make membership on the OCT arbitrarily painful without limitation, you'll probably find few people interested in taking on the job.  Please do keep this in mind before building a mountain out of this particular molehill.
