Hmmm...some folks might still be using 2.3.3, so I don't really know what to say.
Here's a thought: newcomers will be using ACS 3.0. Just document the process with the .tcl init files, and make brief mention of the fact that a .ini file is provided for long-time AOLserver users who're still using AOLserver 2, without going into details. Those still using AOLserver 2 will be familiar with it, not newbies, so shouldn't need mucn help with setting up the configuration anyway.
How does that sound?
You're right, you don't need to include the set datestyle command in the init file any more.
