Forum OpenACS Q&A: Use Keepalive and Watchdog servers with OpenACS?

I have just switched over to OpenACS from an Oracle-based ACS
installation.

Are the Keepalive and Watchdog servers still applicable?

(For reference, the Keepalive and Watchdog servers are virtual servers
which monitor the web services to insure it can talk to the database
and searches the AOLserver error log file, respectively.  These were
part of the ACS server architecture. See
http://www.arsdigita.com/doc/architecture-install)

Thanks.

They're applicable, but I don't know if anything needs to be done to make them work with openacs.  It's likely that you can use them as is since neither package depends on using a RDMS.
WatchDog is included with OpenACS since the betas. You configure it through the regular parameters/servicename.tcl file and you can look at its config and error logs in /admin/monitoring.
