After reading all discussions about distributions on openacs.org (and www.building-tux.com/software/linux_distros.html, the final decision seems a matter of taste and needs; but at least RedHat does not qualify as reference platform anymore.

I am planning to take a closer look at mandrake.
- They say it's very user friendly and it shows.
- They just released a live CD! I downloaded the ISO image, burned it on CD, booted from CD on my win2000 PC and tasted mandrake (www.mandrakelinux.com). If this could happen for openACS, that would be really cool.
- It has translation project (www.mandrakelinux.com/l10n/translations.php3).
- It is desktop oriented
- It is supposed to be well supported.

....or would OpenBSD be a better choice. Some say it is the most secure OS.... (and most closely related to the academic world) (www.zdnet.com.au/newstech/os/story/0,2000048630,20262355,00.htm).

Any comments?
