Forum OpenACS Q&A: Response to Connection Refusal?

I don't have any answers, but I sympathise. When installing a new ACS, I usually simply copy over a working nsd.tcl and ad.tcl, and modify these accordingly. I recently set up an acs test system with a sister company, and spend five hours trying to figure out why I kept getting the connection refused errors. It would be useful to put together a tick-list of variables to check... i.e., what is $host set to in nsd.tcl, what is the system URL set to in ad.tcl, who owns /home/nsadmin, what port is set for nssock, etc....

In the meantime, have you tried running AOLServer with a standard nsd.tcl (i.e. sans OpenACS) and seeing if you are recieving http connections on port 8000?
