Forum OpenACS Q&A: Can AOLServr 4 and 3.3 coexist?

Still haven't been able to fix my problem with aolserver 3.3 refusing connections after the index page so I'm going to try with aolserver 4. If that doesn't work, it's back to checking out firewall issues. Problem is I need to leave 3.3 up for a static site (til 4 is working anyways).

So, can the two both be on the same machine? And, once 4 is installed, how does one uninstall an aolserver that was installed from source? Is there a file list somewhere?

Brad,

It depends on how you installed it.  At our site I root all of our web stuff at /webroot, so we have

/webroot/aol33ad13
/webroot/aol356
/webroot/aol40
/webroot/aol402

Each of these is a separate installation of AOLserver, independent of each other.  Each install also has a complete Tcl 8.4.x install embedded.  This allows us to isolate and test.

So the answer to your question is "yes", if you don't install AOLserver in a shared directory like /usr/local.

I have 3.3 running and aolserver 4 in a chroot on a debian box to eliminate the path conflicts that I originally ran into.
