Forum OpenACS Q&A: cannot start server no errors in log

Collapse

I have just installed everything and I run the AOLserver start script
then try to hit the page.  It just waits forever.  I look at the
server.log and there are no errors.  Anybody know what could be the
problem?

Is server.log the name for the server error log? Most ACS installations have an access log called servername.log and an error log called servername-error.log in the aol30/log/ directory.

Please give more details: did Aolserver start up earlier, what version are you using, etc...

Also, try to test things incrementally if possible. Unfortunately, the directions don't reflect this very well, but did each component work in isolation?

This file is /home/aolserver/log/server.log

It goes through the process of logging the start up of aolserver.  When I try to browse my site I just wait forever and no errors pop up. The log details how it's starting all the services and appears to start postgresql correctly.  The last line in the log is

Notice: Replicating Web Robots DB, because data in robots table has expired

I am running AOLServer3.0.

It seemed like everything worked in isolation.  If I use the default nsd.tcl I get the AOLserver home page to load correctly.  Also, I can view the tables in Postgresql and they appear to have loaded properly as I didn't get any errors running the scripts to make the database.
