The best way to help a random person get a production-quality install is to get OpenACS packaged in compliance with, and then included in, a standard distribution packaging system.  The most popular ones are RPM, Debian packages, BSD ports, and now OS X's fink.  This has been tried before with OpenACS but has failed because a) nobody continues the maintenance b) we didn't try to become a formally accepted package c) the prerequisite packages, especially the heavily patched AOLserver we required until AOLserver 4.0, didn't exist.
