Forum OpenACS Q&A: Are nsrewrite and nsxml required for 5.0.x?

Was a decision made on dropping nsrewrite from the required modules?

I was helping a newbie install 5.0.4. He was following the install guide but when it came to starting OpenACS he got an error for nsrewrite. It turns out that its still set to load in the default /etc/config.tcl.

In a similar vein the install doc gives instructions for downloading nsxml but doesn't use it. Is it required now that we are tDom'ers?

ns_rewrite is not required. You can remove the reference from the config.tcl file.

nsxml has been replaced with tDOM, if you can install tDOM that is recommended.

tdom is *required* for OpenACS 5.x. You have to to install tdom. If you are running AOLserver 4.x you don't have to install tdom as a *module* but you still need to install tdom.

Tom,

I actually did remove the nsrewrite from config.tcl, my point was that it should be removed from the distro's config.tcl. I'll post it in bug tracker.

Bart,

Slightly crossed wires - I realise tDom is required but nsxml is still down loaded in the install instructions - its just not compiled and used. :)
