Is there a param that can be set in 5.0.4 so when a user registers from within a subsite, they automatically join the subsite without clicking the "Join Subsite" link?

No, I put that problem on hold a few weeks while I work on a subsite-enabled e-commerce package that I need for the same project. I suspect I'll have to modify the subsite registration routine.

Also, I noticed subsite registration problems when using URLs mapped via the host-node map. I don't remember the details right now, but if you're using host-node map, please let me know if you notice anything.

Yes, there are bugs there too.  I posted about that earlier today.  I was seeing infinite redirects.

It's not a hard thing to develop, just make sure you don't break existing functionality otherwise a TIP would be necessary. I might have to do this as well, but if you go for it, make sure the parameter allows for immediate signup in this subsite and for signup waiting approval.
