Forum OpenACS Q&A: Using Greatbridge pgsql?

Is it possible to use the Great Bridge pgsql installer, etc. with
OpenACS?  I believe the documentation mentions that the standard
pgsql install is the preferred method, but I'm wondering if Great
Bridge is supported as well.  Thanks.

I'm not familiar with the greatbridge installer, but It shouldn't matter what source is used for postgresql, be it an rpm, the greatbridge installer or a tarball.  Just make sure that you're installing a 7.0.x series version of postgresql.  The newer 7.1 version of postgresql that is in beta now is known to break a few things in the current version of openacs, but some people are working to cleanup those queries so that the current version of openacs will also work for pg 7.1.

The Great Bridge installer should be fine.  I haven't played with it
myself.  It's just a GUI front end that executes the various install
steps for you, the actual install process isn't any different than a
normal install.  I believe it installs from source because it is
supposed to work on all platforms.

Our documentation was written before the Great Bridge installer was
released.  If you (or someone else) goes through an install and wants
to submit changes to our install docs, go for it.
