Forum OpenACS Q&A: Response to Future directions for OpenACS

There seems to be general agreement on the following:

1) AOL's openness to accepting patches does not meet the community's needs as a centralized repository for an "open-source" project. Frustration has reached critical levels.

2) A full fork is a cumbersome and unrewarding activity (though there seems to be sufficient interest within the community to at least consider this option)

How about this for an alternative... aD already maintains and distributes a patch series to AOLserver containing numerous useful additions. Could one or two AOLserver-experts within OpenACS perhaps assist in the effort of maintaining aD's patch series (filtering submissions etc.) and thereby integrate some of the patches (e.g., decent virtual hosting) which aren't a priority for AOL or aD. I'm guessing that aD will be more open to community contributions.
