Forum OpenACS Q&A: Response to Future directions for OpenACS

I have been using OpenACS now for the past 6 months. I really enjoy it. However, my company wanted to go to Java based application servers, so we started working with Apache/Tomcat. I was excited at first, because it was going to give me a chance to work with Java, since I only messed with it a couple of years ago; and there is so much press about it. However, after about a month or so, I don't ever want to develop web apps in Java, again. It does take seriuosly about twice as long. I just think it is the wrong tool for the job, *IMHO*. I hope that OpenACS does not go to Java, because I think I will look elsewhere then.

Note that I am not a language bigot; I think Java has it's place; I just don't think it is in the web app field.

Unfortunately, I think this whole thing will turn out to be a business decision against a technical decision.
