Forum OpenACS Q&A: nsd76 vs nsd8x ---- Is nsd8x *required* ?

I would like to know if nsd8x is *required* for any OpenACS
funcitonality? If so, what function / module requires nsd8x to work
properly? I am asking this because I want to use nsd76 and am
concerning about any backward incompatibility issues.

Also, any input on nsd76 verses nsd8x (security or feature wise)
would be great.

Thanks in advance

nsd8x is not required for OpenACS 3.2.x but it will be required for OpenACS 4.x as it makes use of features olny available in Tcl 8x, such as namespaces.

Is version nsd8x now fully stable without memory leaks and
as fast as nsd76?  I've been using nsd76 for a long time
and I have been happy with it.

What is the current Feb 2001 thinking on these issues?
What is the best "x" in nsd8x?

Thank you.
