I have my system installed with Oracle 8.1.7 in a Suse 8.0 Linux platform. It was working fine as a local server until I tried to connect to a DSL modem (which did not work either anyway). Now the system or some other Java applications I have cannot find the oracle database. I know it is running and that the listner is running as well and I did not change the port configuration of Oracle. So, none of the regular things I could think of were not altered. Any ideas?

it might be because your hostname was changed when you tried to connect to your provider...

try as root to change the hostname:

hostname localhost

(or change localhost to whatever was the original name of your box)

the stop/restart the listener oracle ...
