Forum .LRN Q&A: Consortium update

Some of you have asked for an update on the Consortium launch and related activities, so here's a short one:

Before we can fund and operate the Consortium we need to organize it formally.  Al and I are meeting with MIT legal counsel this Friday to explore the right form and other legal issues, and will make a recommendation to the EB following these discussions.

We've drafted a whitepaper that is under review by members of the EB and TB.  When we have their feedback we'll make it available publicly.  Give it a week or so.

We've got a press release outline for schools to use, based on the news of the Consortium launch and School X's participation in it.  Al and I met last week with Paul Denning, MIT Sloan's Director of Media Relations, to brief him. Paul will in turn be briefing major US press.  One function of the Consortium will be to help coordinate outreach by members.  Until it's organized to do that, we can use this forum to keep each other posted.

We're also reaching out and responding to potential .LRN users (for example, see Concord Consortium post), as well as other major corporations as potential sponsors for the Consortium.

Please blog away on any .LRN/OACS-related news or events.  IMHO we should write for people outside this community, e.g.,

and make us aware of your posts so we can point others to them.
