Can I get away with installing the desktop edition of Redhat 6.2 to
run an OpenACS system or do I need the Professional Edition?

You can always "transform" your desktop into professional by getting some extra RPMs from other sources. The Professional edition will most likely give you some extra support. If you need that, it might be a good idea.
