Jeff, thanks for your point of view. I realize now that I have no right to expect that a general concensus be reached about feature implementations within the toolkit. Nor can I expect people to motivate their needs for this or that feature. In this light a public API provides people with the necessary freedom to do what they want to do. Therefore I'm now all for a public API.
