what kind of error you had with your aolserver4 installation? Did you follow installer documentation step-by-step?
i suggest you to try very hard openacs5-1 with aolserver4 altrough oacs-5-1 installs onto aolserver3 - look at compatibility-matrix https://openacs.org/doc/openacs-5-1/individual-programs.html#compatibility-matrix
