Forum OpenACS Q&A: PG 7.1.1 will be released on Tuesday???

Hello,

didn't the Postgres Hackers want to release PG 7.1.1 on Tuesday May
1st???

I didn't find anything on the mirror ftps.

Neither did I.  They may've been planning to fork the tree and bundle the release on May 1st, not meaning it would be generally available on  all mirrors by May 1st.

I haven't seen anything suggesting a delay on the hacker's list so I think it will show up on the mirrors in the next couple of days.

I don't see a label/branch in CVS for it though. Only a commit to the documentation to bump up the version number to 7.1.1.

Also, I haven't been able to reach the CVSup server in about the last week.  Anyone else use CVSup to get a copy of Postgresql?

No, I think they are waiting for some patch to come through. Don't
remember the details, but it was serious enough to give the reporter
till friday to fix the (hard to find?) bug.

Any way to see if we can get the %TYPE for functions stuff included
during the delay period? 😊  I'm not on the PG hackers list, but
maybe someone who is, could ask the relevant people about this,
explaining how useful it would be for OpenACS 4.x?

No, there's no chance.  Maybe 7.1.2 but not 7.1.1.

Bruce Momjian is starting to package PG 7.1.1 today, so it won't be long.

I begged for the %TYPE patch to be included in at least 7.1.2 (which I hear is a couple of months away), but Tom Lane voted against it because it wasn't a reviewed patch and they usually don't include new features in minor releases "unless it's very safe".
