Forum .LRN Q&A: Chat Module for dotLRN

Hello

We (Costas & Ashem) have been working on a chat module for dotLRN as part of our project at University of Reading.

We have implemented the basic functionalities and would be glad if people can use it and give us a feedback.

The documentation is still not done and will be available by 20th sept or earlier. However, a basic guide is under the folder /doc.

Can anyone please tell me how can I upload it? I tried the following

dhcp-15-95:~ # cvs add /var/lib/aolserver/mscncc/packages/chat-auth/
cvs add: in directory .:
cvs [add aborted]: there is no version here; do 'cvs checkout' first

What am I doing wrong ?

There are already 2 chat packages available. Why creating another one?

1. Chat Module (in file storage)

(and an improved version I've been working on)

2. Jabber Package under CVS
openacs-4/contrib/packages/jabber

If you want to add that to CVS you have to send that to community members with more rights on the oacs box. Try to add it to the contrib folder in cvs or just upload it to the above file storage.

Hello!

We want to install a chat package in our openacs
(oacs 5-1) installation BUT integrated with
dotlearn.

I see there are three modules:

-Jaber
I dont like to need an external client.
Not dotlearn integrated.
-Chat
Old code.
Not dotlearn integrated.
(PS: Nima: do you have any code?)

Could we test your code?

Dear Agustin

We would be more than glad to offer you the code. Actually we are just submitting our thesis at the moment, and would it be ok, if I send you the code on monday eve 27th sept. Since some tweaking is pending.

Or, as soon as we can finish off the things (fri/sat), but definitely by monday.
