Forum .LRN Q&A: Re: Sociability and Scalability in Online Learning Environments

G'day Nick,

I didn't mean to sound like a show pony, here... 😉

LORS doesn't do a lot of things... for starters, it's missing a good chunk of IMS Digital Repository Interoperability stuff. For instance, people can't use webservices to query resources from other repositories. Neither it can search other repositories using SOAP.... I'm counting on your SOAP gateway for that one 😉

Also, the IMS CP online editor is a must have features as it will allow you to export *any* type of content from the CR into an IMS CP package. Hopefully, we'll get some funding for this soon.

The MD editor is on the way, though.

Hi Ernie,

Did you hear about "Instructional Architect" (IA) program in development by The Reusability, Collaboration, and Learning Troupe - http://rclt.usu.edu/people.html - at Utah State University?

They are working in a "UseIA service" which is implemented as a web service using SOAP  to access resources  digital libraries and embed it in an instructional unit to use in a class. According to them:

"to use the service, the digital library simply calls a remote method through SOAP .(Currently, the service has been tested only with a PHP client. If you are using or plan to use a different platform, please let us know.)" - see http://ia.usu.edu/app_useIA/useIA_Specification.php

Current partner digital libraries include - http://ia.usu.edu/what.php

The WSDL of UseIA is here - http://ia.usu.edu/devel/app_useIA/useIA_server.php?wsdl.

I do not known how active is the program nowadays and AFAIK it uses older SOAP v1.1 specs. As I heard Nicks' soap-gateway package will support SOAP v1.1 do you think IA interoperability could be a good addition for LORS?
