Forum OpenACS Q&A: PostgreSQL and OpenACS 5.1.x

Hello everyone,

I'm planning on upgrading to OpenACS 5.1.1 and PostgreSQL 7.4.6.  The documentation under "release notes" for 5.0.0 states "upgrades are supported from OpenACS 4.6.3 or PostgreSQL 7.3.

Can anyone tell me if using version 7.4.6 of Postgres will cause any problems with the ACS version 5.1.1?  I have an application that has been running without a hitch for two years and would like to ensure that my app continues to perform as well on the new versions.  Thanks.

The 4.6.3 to 5.0.0+ upgrade is pretty bad, so give yourself some time and test it out thoroughly. Since you're already on Postgres 7.3, you're lucky -- part of the reason the upgrade is so bad is most people were on 7.2.

I think 7.4.6 is fine, but I haven't tried it myself yet. I'm on 7.4.5 I believe, and that is working fine.
